Thomas F. (Tom) Sykstus is a Huntsville native and Grissom alum. Tom attended the University of Alabama for his undergraduate double major in political science and criminal justice where he was named a Blount Initiative Scholar. He was also a member of the ATO fraternity. Tom is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law where he served as an Associate Editor of the Alabama Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law Review. He also was awarded the Order of the Samaritan, the highest public service award bestowed by the law school. Tom then received an LLM degree in Litigation and Dispute Resolution from the George Washington University School of Law in Washington, D.C. Following graduation, Tom worked in Washington, D.C., with large law firms primarily in the areas of medical malpractice and personal injury. Tom is an honorably discharged veteran with the U.S. Army Reserve where he served as a 68W Combat Medic Specialist with the 75th Combat Support Hospital in Tuscaloosa. Tom is licensed to practice law in Alabama, Maryland, New York, Washington, D.C., and the Northern District of Alabama.
