VA Disability Claims Backlog Acknowledged by Defense Secretary

Many of the veterans that we represent lament the fact that it takes the VA so long to decide their claim and for their claim to work its way through the convoluted VA system. I have previously written blog posts on how a veteran should proceed if his or her claim is denied, the specific deadlines regarding VA disability appeals, and the length of time that it takes the VA to process VA claims as reported by various and assorted news organizations.

As reported by CNN, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, known for his candor, recently acknowledged that "we missed it” as it relates to the VA backlog.

Secretary Hagel has acknowledged the long delay and the frustration that veterans go through in waiting for their VA disability claims. Our advice to veterans is to stay attentive and continue your pursuit of any and all VA disability benefits to which you believe you are entitled. Our previous blog post noted above gives our detailed advice on how veterans should proceed but, most importantly, Veterans should commit everything to writing, mail everything that you send to the VA by certified mail, return receipt requested, and, most importantly, keep a copy of everything that you send to the VA and everything that you receive from the VA. Finally, do not miss any deadlines when you are applying or fighting for your VA disability or you will lose important rights with regard to your VA claim for the long term.
