On July 9, 2013, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) fined Expert Global Solutions, the world’s largest debt collection agency, $3.2 million for violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). The FTC’s complaint, which you can read here says that Expert Global Solutions called consumers multiple times each day, morning and night, even when consumers asked them to stop. The company also called consumers’ work places, even though their employers prohibited such calls, and left messages about the debt with third parties.
You can visit the Federal Trade Commission’s website concerning debt collection here. You can read about the specifics of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and also other topics such as identity theft and debt collection, debts and deceased relatives, and time-barred debts.
